Description
  • Hailing from the small town of Aconchi, Sonora, the Contreras family has been distilling in the Sierra Madre Mountain Range for 5 generations. Although typically known for bacanora production, there are small amounts of Dasylirion Wheeleri that grow along the border of Chihuahua in the northeastern part of the Sierra Madres.

This 200 liter "Reserva del Vinatero" is composed of 100% wild Dasylirion Wheeleri, or "Palmilla" as it is known locally. The plants were harvested by hand and roasted for two whole days in an underground pit using mesquite wood. Wild fermentation occured in stainless steel vats using natural spring water from Rancho Tepua. Two distillations took place on a copper alembic still.

Rivaling some of the finest sotols of Chihuahua, Roberto has crafted a spirit unique to the terroir of the Sonoran Desert. Look for notes of mesquite, palo santo, toasted sage, and terracotta. A subtly sweet caramel note helps round out the long lasting earthy finish.
